1. O how shall I receive You, how greet You, Lord, aright? All nations long to see You, my Hope, my Heart's Delight! O kindle, Lord, most holy Your lamp within my breast; to do in spirit lowly all that may please You best.
2. Your Zion strews before You a palm branch fresh and fair. My heart in joy would bring You a psalm of beauty rare. My heart would sing Your praises, Your glory would proclaim; in joyful song it raises all honour to Your name!
3. Did You not suffer gladly to bring me joy and peace? Your soul and body sadly cried out: "God, grant release!" When I was still in darkness and could not share Your light, You, Saviour, came with gladness and changed my earthly plight.
4. When heavy fetters bound me, You came to set me free. When sin and guilt surround me, forgiveness grant to me! Great glory You will give me, a treasure safe on high that will not fail nor leave me as earthly riches fly.
