Star, to Which I'm Looking, by Koch and Krummacher

Lyrics

Star, to which I'm looking,
Rock, on which I stand,
Leader, whom I'm trusting,
Staff, that's in my hand,
Bread, by which I'm living,
Spring, at which I bow,
Goal for which I'm striving:
All, O Lord, art Thou!
Goal for which I'm striving:
All, O Lord, art Thou!

How could I without Thee
Strength and courage share?
Who, but Thee, could help me
All my burdens bear?
Lacking Thee I'd wither
Like a severed bough.
Faith, hope, love together:
All, O Lord, art Thou!
Faith, hope, love together:
All, O Lord, art Thou!

With what Thou hast given
I'll pursue my way
Till the bells of heaven
Guide me home some day.
Then, anew rejoicing,
Whisper to Thee low:
"I can bring Thee nothing:
All, O Lord, art Thou!"
"I can bring Thee nothing:
All, O Lord, art Thou!"

Devotional Thought

Consider for a moment the hymn writer's awareness of God. In just the first verse alone, God is described as the Star to which they're looking; the Rock on which they stand; the Leader whom they're trusting; the Staff that's in their hand; the Bread by which they're living; the Spring at which they bow; and the Goal for which they're striving. It would seem that the hymn writer was only getting started!

Now, consider for a moment your awareness of God. Who is God to you? What would you add to this list? Be encouraged to take some time to ponder and reflect upon all that God is to you.

Is He also your Star, Rock, Leader, Staff, Bread, Spring, and Goal?
