Lyrics
O Love, that will not let me go,
I rest my weary soul in Thee;
I give Thee back the life I owe,
That in Thy ocean depths its flow
May richer, fuller be.
O Joy, that seeks me through pain,
I cannot close my heart to Thee;
I trace the rainbow through the rain,
And feel the promise is not vain
That morn shall tearless be.
O Love, that will not let me go,
I rest my weary soul in Thee;
I give Thee back the life I owe,
That in Thy ocean depths its flow
Shall richer, fuller be.
O Love, that will not let me go.
Devotional Thought
What a powerful reminder we're given right at the beginning of this treasured hymn: Christ's love will never let us go. What comfort and peace this gives us, knowing that no matter how many times we fall short of His glory as a result of our sin, nothing can separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus. His love is a love that has no equal.
The hymn writer also reminds us of the joy that we have in Christ—a joy that seeks us through our pain. The joy that we have in the Lord and the "eternal weight of glory" that we shall experience through eternal fellowship with Him will always outweigh our "light affliction." Our joy in Christ is so deeply rooted that we can't get away from it; it seeks us out, even in the darkest and most challenging of circumstances.
Are you tired, dear soul? Discouraged? Sorrowful? If so, Christ invites you to rest your weary soul in Him, and to be encouraged by the faithful promise that morn shall tearless be. Remind yourself today of the joy you have in Christ, and of His unrelenting love toward you.
