Episode 84 - Deuteronomy 6 and Parents
Worldwide, people continue to experience different levels of quarantine, having to remain at home much of their time. While this situation may be difficult to go through, it also provides us with opportunities to continue delving into a teaching mentioned in the March 22 service with District Apostle Kolb. This teaching is rooted in Deuteronomy 6:5-9: You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates. Discipleship opportunities to develop a robust life of faith in Christ happen primarily at home. Both parents and the Church play an essential role in the discipleship of children. Thus, through the Faith Arc strategy, based on the previous verses of Deuteronomy, resources and materials have been developed so that parents and the Church can collaborate on this endeavor and best steward the time and influence that parents have in the home; especially during this season of Covid-19 when many families are perhaps spending more time at home.
Each day of the week, especially on the Sabbath, we are to plant this teaching in the hearts of our children by exercising spiritual disciplines as a family and availing ourselves of the opportunities that God, the Holy Spirit, offers us to teach our children about the triune God and the importance of having a relationship with Him.
