Episode 83 - Even the crumbs...
In the Pentecost service, the Chief Apostle referenced the account of the Gentile woman who asked Jesus to heal her daughter (cf. Mt. 15; Mk. 7).
The woman humbly approached Jesus knowing that He was the only one who could help her. She acknowledged Him as God when she called Him Lord. She fell down and worshipped Him. In spite all of this, Jesus initially dismissed her petition, pointing out that she was a Gentile and He was there to help the Israelites. However, she didn’t give up, but continued to say: “even the crumbs… that fall from the master’s table” (cf. Mt. 15:27 NIV). She recognized that a crumb from the master’s table was still sufficient bread.
This speaks more deeply to the understanding that everything the Lord gives us is sufficient for us. This was highlighted in the Trinity Sunday service, in which the account of Paul asking the Lord to remove a thorn from his flesh was brought up. But the Lord said to him, "My grace is sufficient for you" (2 Cor. 12:9). In other words, “What I provide for you will be sufficient.”
This is reiterated in the benediction (cf. 2 Cor. 13:14). As we hold on to the words of this blessing, we realize that they are sufficient for us, and so we can affirm, “I’m satisfied with what the Lord has provided me.”
