Episode 73 - Made in the image of God

What does it mean to be in the “image of God”? The Chief Apostle describes this in the sense that God has given us His attributes, i.e. we have speech and freedom, and with that freedom, we are endowed with the ability to reason, to love, to be responsible, etc. He shared with us these attributes for us to live in perfect harmony with Him, with one another, and with creation.

However, with the fall into sin, these perfect relationships were broken. There have been power struggles among individuals and nations throughout history. Even with creation, people put material things higher than their relationships with God or one another. Yet, Genesis 1:27 says that God created man and woman in His image – they are equal to Him, and we should all be equal to one another.

The only solution to this brokenness is Jesus Christ, the second Adam (1 Corinthians 15:45-48). He came to open the way of salvation with His sacrifice, and to give us an example of how we can become the new creation.

So, in order to be in that perfect image again, we must believe in Christ and share in the sacraments that He established, which help us to become the people that God wants, and originally intended, us to be. As Apostle Paul said in Galatians 3:28, "There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus". We are to be one in Christ, and enter into the new kingdom, and the new heaven and new earth.
