1. The year so still is ending, be also still, my heart! Our God and faithful Father did joy and pain impart. All that this year encompassed our God alone does know; the wounds that were inflicted, the mournful tears of woe.
2. Just why so much of sadness, so shortlived joy and rest? And why so soon the parting from those we loved the best? So many eyes have closed now and death their lips has sealed that once spoke with affection; Oh, may this pain be healed!
3. So that it's not forgotten what often we forget; that this poor earthly dwelling is for our home not set. The Lord will with His people, whom all His Spirit bear, in Zion's golden city a habitation share!
4. Here in this world we scatter the seed with anxious tears; our joys we'll reap up yonder in neverending years. Lord, help us on our journey that strong our faith may be and walk Yourself beside us to heav'nly destiny!
