Audio Files

Lyrics

1. Prayer is the soul's sincere desire, in word or unexpressed, a pure, consuming Godly fire that burns within the breast.
2. Prayer is for soul the vital breath, for soul its native air, its watchword at the gates of death, for home it goes with prayer.
3. Prayer is the contrite sinner's voice, returning from his ways, while angels in their songs rejoice and cry: "Behold, he prays!"
4. God's own in prayer appear as one, in word and deed and mind, while with the Father and the Son sweet fellowship they find.
5. Prayer is not made on earth alone: The Holy Spirit pleads, and Jesus at His Father's throne for sinners intercedes.
6. O Thou by whom we come to God, the Life, the Truth, the Way, the path of prayer Thyself has trod: Lord, teach us how to pray!
