1. Of compassion and salvation, is the gospel from on high, to the poor of every nation, it proclaims that help is nigh. To the lost it gives direction, for the parched, a fountain cool, wondrous help flows imperfection, from the Spirit’s sparkling pool.
2. Thus the secret is compassion, which to fallen man is shown, love divine in perfect fashion, which the poor can claim their own. Whom this joyful gospel reaches, he who feels it’s mighty surge, let him go as Jesus teaches, let him others onward urge.
