1. I stood at mercy's gate, a lost and wand'ring child; a fear oppressed my heart: Would I find mercy mild? A fear disturbed my soul that I may be too late, may never reach my goal; I prayed outside the gate, I prayed outside the gate.
2. For mercy loud I cried: "O free me, Lord, from sin!" I did not hope in vain, for Jesus let me in and washed away my guilt. He drew me to His breast; my heart with joy He filled and gave me peace and rest, and gave me peace and rest.
