1. Earthly pleasures are but fleeting, quickly passing by; but, by Jesus' word receiving, lasting joy draws nigh.
2. Many joys, but also sorrow, brought the passing year; yet the foe could us not harrow, for God's grace was near.
3. Now with darkness still enshrouded is the dawning year. Filled with faith, we're not discouraged; God is ever near.
