1. Ah, but one wish and but one longing have I for you, O loving heart: That you in gladness or in sorrow may from your Saviour never part. That in His wounds you may find refuge, His love your constant escort too. That He may guard you ev'ry moment, this is my wish and prayer for you.
2. Is He your light in ev'ry darkness, your compass on the sea of life? The consolation of your conscience; your victory in fiercest strife? Are you in His strong arms now resting and is His yoke an easy task? Do you enjoy His love and merit? O tell me, what more can you ask?
3. I have found grace, yes, and salvation in God the Father and the Son. The wounds of Jesus, they have healed me; God's act of grace the vict'ry won. I shall by Jesus' hand be guided who by apostles would me lead. O Throne of Grace, my heart shall praise You and offer thanks in word and deed.
