Lyrics
The great Physician now is near,
The sympathizing Jesus;
He speaks the drooping heart to cheer,
O hear the voice of Jesus.
Refrain
Sweetest note in seraph song,
Sweetest name on mortal tongue!
Sweetest carol ever sung:
Jesus, blessed Jesus!
Your many sins are all forgiv'n;
O hear the voice of Jesus!
Go on your way in peace to heav'n
And wear a crown with Jesus.
Refrain
His name dispels my grief and fear,
No other name but Jesus.
Oh, how my soul delights to hear
The precious name of Jesus.
Refrain
And when to heav'nly realms above
We rise to see our Jesus,
We'll sing around the throne of love
His name, the name of Jesus.

Devotional Thought
Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them… (Matthew 9:35-36). Jesus proclaims the kingdom and then He demonstrates it. Verse 35 highlights the extent of Jesus’ compassion, shown through His teaching, preaching, and healing. In the ninth chapter of Matthew alone, there are seven examples where Jesus showed compassion toward those in need. Further, Jesus’ compassion always leads to action.
We are called to do the same today. Is our compassion a reflection of the compassion of Christ? Do we not only recognize need and suffering, but also take action to alleviate it? Certainly, we can’t heal as Christ healed, or teach as Christ taught. However, there is much that we can do to demonstrate God’s kingdom of love to those around us.
