John 16:20
"Most assuredly, I say to you that you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice; and you will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will be turned into joy.”

We suffer from being in this world, far from Christ. We weep because of our imperfections. We share the pain of others. We are sad when our testimony is not accepted. God will turn this sadness into joy.

Mark 9:31-32
“For He taught His disciples and said to them, ‘The Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of men, and they will kill Him. And after He is killed, He will rise the third day.’ But they did not understand this saying, and were afraid to ask Him.”

We take the Spirit’s teaching to heart. We submit to God’s will and trust Him. We await and prepare for Christ’s return. We contribute to the salvation of others. We hope in grace.

Hebrews 12:2
“Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

The Passion of Christ teaches us how to behave in suffering. We trust God, continue to do His will and serve Him. Christ will give victory to those who persevere until His return.

Revelation 1:17b-18
“I am the First and the Last. I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive  forevermore. Amen. And I have the keys of Hades and of Death.”

Christ’s message is for all of us—the living and the dead—the gospel is valid here on earth and in the yonder world: “Come! And let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely” (Rev 22:17). There is no good reason not to answer this invitation…

Matthew 5:16
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”

Jesus is the light of the world. We make His light shine by modeling our lives after Jesus’s example. We believe that God loves the departed and prays for their salvation.

1 Peter 1:15
"But as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct.”

Sanctification is essential for entering the kingdom of God. God sanctifies us through the sacrifice of Christ, His word and the sacraments. He calls us to purify ourselves and dedicate our lives to Him.

Exodus 20:2-3
“I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. You shall have no other gods before Me.”

God has revealed Himself to us in Jesus Christ. We worship Him through our praise, thankfulness, trust and love. Nothing is more important to us than God.

John 16:28
"I came forth from the Father and have come into the world. Again, I leave the world and  go to the Father.”

We are children of God, sent into the world to serve Him. We leave the world to go to the Father. By following Christ’s example and with His help, we will reach our goal.

Joshua 24:15b
“But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

We serve God because we believe in His promise and are thankful for His blessings. We serve Him by following Jesus Christ’s example. It is through the sincerity of our commitment that we can inspire those around us to serve God.

Mark 6:41
“And when He had taken the five loaves and the two fish, He looked up to heaven, blessed and broke the loaves, and gave them to His disciples to set before them; and the two fish He divided among them all.”

Jesus Christ gives us the bread of eternal life. The effectiveness of the word and Holy Communion depend on our willingness to change. We serve Christ by proclaiming the gospel. We do this in faith, out of love for Him and our neighbor.

1 Thessalonians 1:2-3
“We give thanks to God always for you all, making mention of you in our prayers, remembering without ceasing your work of faith, labour of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ in the sight of our God and Father.”

We believe in Christ and His work of salvation. Our faith shapes our lives. We love Christ and work to become like Him. We love our neighbors and contribute to their salvation. We hope for Christ’s return and prepare ourselves for it.
