Luke 22:19–20
“And He took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, ‘This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.’ Likewise He also took the cup after supper, saying, ‘This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is shed for you.’”

Christ chose us to be in fellowship with Him. He is present in Holy Communion. He gives us eternal life. We give thanks and give ourselves to Him. He testifies that He will return soon and urges us to contribute to the unity of the Church.

2 Corinthians 3:6
“Who also made us sufficient as ministers of the new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.”

No one can be made righteous by following rules. Our salvation comes from Christ. The Holy Spirit teaches us. He makes us grow in love for God and our neighbor. This development has visible repercussions on our behavior.

Exodus 20:8
“Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.”

We keep the Sabbath day holy by worshipping and praising God, devoting time to Him, seeking fellowship with Christ and doing good to others.

Mark 9:31-32
“For He taught His disciples and said to them, ‘The Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of men, and they will kill Him. And after He is killed, He will rise the third day.’ But they did not understand this saying, and were afraid to ask Him.”

We take the Spirit’s teaching to heart. We submit to God’s will and trust Him. We await and prepare for Christ’s return. We contribute to the salvation of others. We hope in grace.

Mark 6:41
“And when He had taken the five loaves and the two fish, He looked up to heaven, blessed and broke the loaves, and gave them to His disciples to set before them; and the two fish He divided among them all.”

Jesus Christ gives us the bread of eternal life. The effectiveness of the word and Holy Communion depend on our willingness to change. We serve Christ by proclaiming the gospel. We do this in faith, out of love for Him and our neighbor.
