Sunday School

Faith Foundation

Sunday School (K-5th Grade)

Children begin by developing a foundation for faith, learning to know God in simple, meaningful ways. Through Bible stories, prayer, worship, and engaging activities, they discover who God is, that Jesus loves them, and that they belong to His family and a caring congregation. This stage nurtures trust, wonder, and confidence, forming the beginning of a lifelong relationship with God.

Faith formation: teaching Sunday School with purpose

The resources below equip teachers to guide children in kindergarten through 5th grade on their faith journey with clarity, structure, and practical support. The Instructional Guide explains how to use the lessons effectively, while the Goals and Learning Objectives highlight three core truths that shape a child’s understanding of Christian beliefs. The Scope and Sequence provides an organized roadmap of lessons and scheduling, and the Resource Articles offer practical tools and biblical insight for effective teaching.

Together, these sections form a cohesive framework to help teachers confidently lead, nurture spiritual growth, and inspire children to live out their faith.

Working with Children with Individualized Needs

As followers of Christ, we are called to make every child feel welcomed, included, and at home in our Church. This guide equips volunteers and teachers to support children and youth with special needs, and their families, with practical insight, compassion, and flexibility. Grounded in Jesus’ invitation, “Let the little children come to me,” it encourages us to honor each child’s uniqueness while providing the support they need to grow in faith and fully participate in church life.

Summer Session Ideas

Summer offers a flexible season for congregations—a chance to pause regular routines while still nurturing faith. A break from structured programs can refresh children, youth, teachers, and families, creating space for rest, creativity, and meaningful connection. Rather than stepping away from church, it’s an opportunity to grow spiritually in new, more relaxed ways.

Simple gatherings, family-focused activities, or events like Vacation Bible School can help everyone stay connected and engaged. And even if larger programs aren’t possible, there are many meaningful ways to share faith and strengthen relationships throughout the summer.
